Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Highly Qualified status: A.A. degree, 48 credits, or Paraprofessional Praxis Test.
• Two years of experience with children with emotional disturbance/behavioral issues or equivalent education/experience.
• Ability to stay calm in stressful situations with aggressive students.
• Ability to lift 30–50 pounds as needed.
• Ability to participate in physical restraint maneuvers when required.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher(s).
• Assist students in generalizing social and problem-solving skills in the general education environment.
• Be part of a crisis response team, including verbal de-escalation and physical restraint in emergencies.
• Maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention certification.
• Assist teachers in devising strategies to reinforce skills and instruction.
• Help maintain classroom organization and a positive learning environment.
• Operate and assist with classroom equipment.
• Supervise and manage students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Assist with physical care and management of students as needed.
• Follow through to implement individual programs designed by the teacher.
• Participate in team planning functions as appropriate.
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
• Other duties as assigned.
