Job summary

Heritage - Special Education Office in Harrisburg, SD seeks a 2026-27 Behavior Technician to support students with behavioral needs. This is a full-time, school-term position with starting date TBD and salary $22.30 per hour.

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED, at least one year in a similar role; strong communication, ability to handle confidential student information; valid driver’s license. Reports to the Principal.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: One year in similar position.
• Physical requirements: Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination. Some lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Other requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Driver’s license. Confidentiality of student information.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation of behavior strategies with the Principal and Behavior Specialist.
• Provides assistance to students with behavioral needs (emotional support, physical management).
• Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives.
• Reviews and practices skills taught by a teacher and behavior specialist one-to-one or in small groups.
• Meets with teachers, behavior specialists, administrators, and parents regarding behavioral concerns.
• Maintains student records/data and supervises students in the absence of the teacher.
