Job summary

Fred Finch Youth & Family Services seeks a Behavior Specialist I to support behavior strategies and provide 1:1 interventions for participants and families within our CARES framework. You’ll work under wraparound principles delivering trauma-informed care and strengths-based interventions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a mental health related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic clinical documentation systems.
  • Ability to assess, triage, and organize work.
  • Experience with participant, case management, or record keeping.
  • Strong written and verbal communication of behaviors and interventions.
  • Understanding of developmental milestones for children, youth, or young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Support behavior strategies with 1:1 behavioral intervention and rehabilitation services.
  • Provide direct service to youth, young adults, and families in natural environments.
  • Document services and collaborate with community and mental health professionals.
  • Assist with crisis management, clinical case management, and administrative duties.
  • Support wraparound philosophy and trauma-informed, family-centered approach.

Behavior Specialist I

Pay/Benefits at a Glance
  • Pay range for this position is between $18.98 - $24.22 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

What You Will Do

The Behavior Specialist works within the wraparound philosophy to support behavior strategies and provide 1:1 behavioral intervention and rehabilitation services to participants and their families. The Behavior Specialist is responsible for direct service to youth, young adults, parents/caregivers in their natural environments, documentation of services, collaboration with community and mental health professionals, and participation in group and individual supervision. Additional responsibilities include providing crisis management, clinical case management, administrative functions, and being on call as needed. The Behavior Specialist is active in supporting and implementing wraparound philosophy, trauma-informed care model, and its individualized, strengths-based, culturally competent, family-centered approach to behavioral, evidence-based intervention.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a mental health related field.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and/or competency with electronic clinical documentation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, triage, and organize work.
  • Participant, case management, or record keeping experience.
  • Demonstrated communication skills in describing behaviors and interventions in writing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the developmental milestones of children, youth, or young adults to provide care, treatment, and services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of individual/family/group behavioral health rehabilitation methods for the target population of the program.
  • Theoretical understanding or experience in behavioral approaches to treatment.
  • Experience with or knowledge of designing, supervising, monitoring, changing, and discontinuing individualized behavioral interventions.
  • Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and communities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of the participant, program, and/or Agency.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s license with a good driving record or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
  • Must have access to dependable transportation and personal car insurance, meeting minimum liability coverage required for the position if driving for work or transporting participants.

Preferred

  • B.A. Degree in a relevant field
  • Four (4) years’ experience in a mental health related field.
  • Prior youth mentoring/advocacy experience
  • Fluency in prevailing language(s) of the community where the clinician will work preferred
