BEHAVIORAL SPECIALIST

This is a 10 month position.

Wilkes County Schools provides a robust variety of state and local benefit offerings that include but are not limited to health insurance, annual leave, sick leave, holiday pay, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, state pension plan, and other ancillary benefits. Benefit eligibility is determined by job status and percentage of employment. In addition, Wilkes County Schools offers a local salary supplement of 5%.

NATURE OF WORK

This employee works with staff district wide to develop understanding of a variety of methods to improve student behavior. They also provide staff development activities and develop and assist teachers in facilitating the implementation of functional behavior plans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with teachers to assess and improve student behavior.
  • Provides functional behavioral assessments when appropriate.
  • Develops and facilitate the implementation of functional behavior plans.
  • Facilitates the development of behavior modification plans.
  • Provides home/school behavior intervention support models.
  • Provides staff development focusing on students with difficult behaviors and related topics.
  • Consults with IEP teams as requested.
  • Supports paraprofessionals assigned to students with difficult behaviors.
  • Completes random moment in time studies as required by MAC program guidelines.
  • Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING
  • Valid Teaching Certificate or related certificate.
  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state special education laws.
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusive education and differentiated instruction.
  • Demonstrated understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, power tools, sewing machines, wheelchairs, electronic feeders, standers, hand tools, mechanical toys, craft tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences, medical records, educational records, test results, directives, requests, etc.

Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to understand procedures.
