Job summary

Nexus Family Healing seeks a Behavior Specialist for New Dominion School on its campus in Minnesota. The role delivers academic therapeutic crisis intervention within the school setting to support positive outcomes for youth.

Responsibilities include guiding crises, collaborating on IEP behavior goals, and maintaining professional communication with students, families and staff. Full-time, on-site with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a school, day treatment or residential setting with emphasis on behavior intervention.
  • Valid driver's license; must meet state driving requirements.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities.
  • Must be open to meeting cultural needs and values.
  • Must pass MN criminal background check.
  • Complete two-day Handle with Care exam and training.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains orderly transitions for students during key times (morning arrivals, class transitions, meals, breaks, departures).
  • Ensures compliance with rules on personal conduct, appearance, hygiene and behavior goals.
  • Collaborates on developing IEP behavior goals and participates in progress meetings with staff and parents.
  • Complies with privacy and confidentiality policies.
  • Exhibits professional and respectful communication with clients, coworkers, families and external contacts.
  • Engages in crisis interventions and de-escalation while maintaining boundaries with students.

Nexus Family Healing is looking to add a Behavior Specialist to our team at New Dominion School, our on-campus school.

Our Behavior Specialists provide academic therapeutic crisis intervention services to youth within the school setting to contribute to positive outcomes and brighter futures!!

SCHEDULE/PAY/LOCATION:
  • Full-time, Monday - Friday on-site at New Dominion School on the campus of Nexus-Gerard Family Healing
  • Pay range - $19 - $20/hour
  • Located at: 1111 28th St NE, Austin, MN 55912

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintains the orderly transition of students during key times: morning arrivals, class transitions, lunch and breaks, afternoon departures and off-campus field trips or other outings.
  • Ensures student compliance with rules relating to personal conduct, personal appearance, hygiene, grooming, housekeeping as well as individual behavior goals.
  • Participates in developing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) behavior goals for Social/Emotional Function section, progress meetings with teaching staff and parents.
  • Complies with Nexus' policies involving privacy and confidentiality for students and their families.
  • Exhibits clear, professional, respectful, and effective communication when interfacing with clients, coworkers, families and external contacts and willingly share knowledge, information and resources
  • Engages in crisis interventions and applying de-escalation techniques when appropriate, while maintaining appropriate boundaries and relationships with students.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a school, day treatment or residential treatment setting with demonstrated emphasis on behavior intervention responsibilities required.
  • Valid driver's license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements.
  • Must have the ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges.
  • Must be open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values.
  • Must successfully pass a MN criminal background check.
  • Successfully participate and complete a two-day Handle with Care exam and training.
