Job summary

Motional is seeking a technically strong engineer to lead evaluation initiatives for Prediction and Planning in our Behavior team. You will define how we measure, understand, and improve autonomous driving behavior, bridging model performance and real‑world outcomes with advanced evaluation methodologies and scalable tools.

You will work with ML engineers, roboticists, safety, and cross‑functional teams to tackle open‑ended problems and establish quantitative foundations that improve safety,

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in probability/statistics and data science applied to complex multi‑agent systems.
• Production experience with Python, SQL and data visualization/statistics.
• Ability to define performance targets and provide evidence to justify them.
• Experience leading initiatives and stakeholder engagement across teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as central authority on evaluation for Behaviors teams, bridging model development and system‑level autonomous behavior.
• Drive evaluation strategy for prediction and planning models, including open‑loop and simulation assessments.
• Design advanced metrics to measure model impact on system behavior and safety.
• Develop data mining strategies and data coverage assessments for training and evaluation datasets.
• Build tooling and pipelines; collaborate with ML engineers and roboticists on open‑ended problems.
• Collaborate with Safety, Infrastructure, Operations, Legal, and Systems teams to ensure net positive safety and comfort.
