Job summary

Thurston Elementary School within Springfield Public Schools seeks an Educational Assistant - Behavior & Instruction for a part-time schedule (6.5 hours per day, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. when in session).

The role supports behavioral and academic needs, with duties ranging from tutoring to data entry and record keeping. The position requires an Associates or higher, or equivalent through credits, with certifications such as First Aid/CPR.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or higher (attach diploma) or two years post-secondary study (72 credit hours, 48 semester units) or high school diploma plus ability to assist in reading/writing/mathematics readiness.
• First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain and pass Safe Schools training modules.
• Experience or ability to support students with behavioral, academic, and/or medically fragile needs.

Responsibilities

• Provides supplemental practice under teacher supervision to reinforce skills.
• Assists in health room with first aid if needed and supports student supervision and safety.
• Supports students 1:1 or in small groups in general and special education settings; may adapt curriculum for English language learners.
• Performs data entry, attendance monitoring, and completes required district logs and paperwork.
• Maintains student discipline and supports de-escalation and conflict resolution.
