Job Description

The BHS supports patients in the hospital who are facing challenges related to mental health. As part of a team of professionals, this role helps assess needs, manage risks, and plan for care during and after the hospital stay. The Behavioral Health Specialist also connects patients and families with helpful resources, educates them about mental health, and works with outside providers or insurance teams to coordinate support. They lead or guide activities in one-on-one sessions, small groups, or larger group settings.

Minimum Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited program in a human service field approved by the State of Missouri.
  2. Must obtain CPI certification; certification must be maintained for continued employment.
  3. Clearance through the Family Care Registry.
  4. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Good leadership skills.
  6. Ability to evaluate program outcomes.
  7. Ability to work with multicultural staff and clientele.
  8. If driving is required, must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.
  9. Completion of training as directed through orientation and/or by Leadership, Management, or Educators within the established timeline for continued employment.
