Job summary

ReNEW Schools in Indiana is seeking a dedicated behavior support professional to implement evidence-based interventions, collaborate with teachers and administrators, and create a safe, nurturing classroom environment where students can thrive.

You will conduct assessments, track progress, develop fair evaluation methods, engage families in behavior plans, and lead or participate in team meetings to align interventions with school goals.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or 60 post-secondary credits as minimum education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Special Education preferred.
  • Experience in classroom teaching, counseling, social work, or RBT certification preferred.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills for students, parents, staff and community.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers and administrators on interventions and progress.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with individual teachers, groups of teachers and staff on crisis intervention and intervention planning.
  • Promote positive behavior interventions for at-risk students with explicit, intensive instruction and practice.
  • Use ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and intervention success.
  • Develop fair assessment strategies and assess higher-order thinking and problem solving.
  • Recognize student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Work with administrators to promote positive student behavior and a safe environment.
  • Engage in professional development and involve parents in behavior plans.
  • Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
  • Attend interdisciplinary and grade-level meetings as appropriate.

Job description

Education: Minimum education of an associate’s degree or equivalent to 60 post-secondary credit hours. A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Special Education is preferred.

Experience: A history of successful classroom teaching, counseling, social work, or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification and experience preferred.

Collaborate with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions and/or student progress.

Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which “at risk” students thrive by prioritizing behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated, and provides ample practice.

Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress and the success or failure of planned interventions and systems.

Develop a repertoire of assessment strategies that are fair and equitable; assess higher-order thinking and problem solving.

Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.

Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior.

Continually supervise students to ensure a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where students can thrive.

Engage in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students and targeted students.

Engage parents in the student behavior intervention plan process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child.

Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.

Review behavior referrals and school wide data report.

Participate in building level interdisciplinary team meetings, and/or grade level meetings, as appropriate.

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to relate to students, parents, staff, administrators, and community. Ability to negotiate effective working relationships, and develop position resolutions to conflict.
  • Strong organization skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Unwavering moral compass guided by personal ethics, integrity, tolerance, and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to support the classroom teacher and other building staff in a professional and collegial manner.
