Theuniversityunion in Apex, NC is seeking a Youth Counselor to lead, develop, and build relationships with youth participants in the YMCA program, under the supervision of the Youth Site Director.

The role involves creating a safe, fun environment and coordinating activities before school. Schedule is Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., with base pay $11/hour plus $2/hour for Before School programs, totaling $13/hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience with children/teens preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, activity planning, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports or recreational games is a plus.
• Specific certifications or training may be required.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups from all backgrounds.
• Multilingual is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and builds relationships with elementary and/or middle school students.
• Implements culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities.
• Creates a fun, safe, friendly and challenging atmosphere.
• Mentors and models responsible behavior for children in the program.
• Maintains positive relationships with campers, parents, school staff and YMCA staff.
• Adheres to YMCA policies including medical, disciplinary, abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Ensures spaces and equipment are kept clean and well-maintained.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Develops relationships with community organizations and communicates within area of responsibility.
