General Summary & Scope
The Beauty Advisor (BA) is responsible for providing an exceptional experience for all Ulta Beauty guests by engaging each guest to determine their individual needs, conducting cashier tasks, keeping fixtures stocked with merchandise, maintaining overall store cleanliness, and completing tasks as assigned. The BA supports the leadership team through a focus on performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the aptitude to learn and communicate product knowledge.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
The BA is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned):
Performance
- Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel sales, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty for the store.
- Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by providing a guest-friendly environment, which includes greeting and engaging each guest entering the store, personalizing service to their needs, answering questions about products and services, informing guests about promotions and sales, and recommending complementary Ulta Beauty products and/or services.
- Handle customer service, sales, refunds, and exchanges courteously and assist with online orders.
- Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations with guests to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
- Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience while meeting sales goals.
- Stay informed regarding new and existing products and services during work time and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
- Contribute to an inclusive environment supporting teammates, peers, and guests.
- Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with guests and when prompted by systems.
- Collaborate with managers and team members to help grow the business.
- Participate in ongoing training, including brand and category education, to enable continuous professional development and drive sales performance.
Process
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Adhere to the dress code.
- Drive sales by keeping work areas replenished, signed, faced, and ensuring testers are available.
- Maintain store standards and cleanliness across all areas.
- Assist with merchandise resets, planograms, displays, inventory, and shipment processing using Ulta Beauty’s technology and best practices.
- Protect company assets by following loss prevention practices and providing excellent guest service.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma preferred.
Experience
- 1 year of relevant work experience or equivalent education and experience preferred.
Skills
- Passion for guest service and sales competency.
- Proficient with basic technology (e.g., POS systems, Apple devices).
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Ability to troubleshoot.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Special Position Requirements
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
- Continuous mobility and standing during shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
