General Summary & Scope

The Beauty Advisor (BA) is responsible for providing an exceptional experience for all Ulta Beauty guests by engaging each guest to determine their individual needs, conducting cashier tasks, keeping fixtures stocked with merchandise, maintaining overall store cleanliness, and completing tasks as assigned. The BA supports the leadership team through a focus on performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the aptitude to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

The BA performs the following duties and responsibilities, demonstrating Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values:

Performance
  • Contribute to meeting or exceeding store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), omni-channel sales, and retail shrink.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, answering questions, informing about promotions, and recommending products/services.
  • Handle customer service, sales, refunds, exchanges, and online orders courteously.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
  • Book appointments and support in-store events to deliver an exceptional guest experience and meet sales goals.
  • Stay informed about new and existing products and services, understanding their ingredients and benefits.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment supporting teammates and guests.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
  • Collaborate with managers and staff to grow the business.
  • Participate in ongoing training for professional development and sales performance.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Adhere to the dress code.
  • Drive sales by replenishing and maintaining the sales floor and testers.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and standards.
  • Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, displays, inventory, and shipment processing.
  • Follow loss prevention practices and provide excellent guest service.
  • Perform other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma preferred.

Experience

  • 1 year relevant work experience or equivalent preferred.

Skills

  • Passion for guest service and selling skills.
  • Proficiency with basic technology (POS systems, Apple devices).
  • Strong customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Special Position Requirements

  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions
  • Mobility throughout the store during shifts.
  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly.
