The Contract Beautician provides professional hair care and salon services to residents of the skilled nursing facility. Services should promote residents’ dignity, comfort, personal preferences, and quality of life while accommodating individual physical, cognitive, and communication needs.
Compensation is based on services actually performed for residents at the agreed-upon service rates. Scheduling, supplies, billing arrangements, and other business terms are established in the written service agreement.
Provide haircuts, shampooing, styling, and other agreed-upon services within the beautician’s licensure and qualifications.
Discuss requested services, preferences, and prices with residents or their authorized representatives before providing services.
Obtain appropriate authorization for services and associated charges.
Respect each resident’s right to choose, decline, or discontinue services.
Adapt techniques and appointment length to accommodate residents with limited mobility, dementia, sensory impairments, or other special needs.
Coordinate appointments with designated facility staff to minimize conflicts with meals, therapy, medical appointments, and resident care.
Provide bedside services when appropriate, authorized, and safely accommodated.
Follow facility infection prevention procedures, including hand hygiene, equipment cleaning and disinfection, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
Maintain a clean, orderly salon area and properly handle clean and used towels, capes, and supplies.
Store and use chemicals, electrical equipment, and sharp instruments safely.
Consult nursing staff regarding relevant precautions before providing services, including skin concerns, allergies, positioning needs, or oxygen use.
Request assistance from facility staff for resident transfers, repositioning, or other care needs beyond the beautician’s role.
Promptly report injuries, unusual skin or scalp findings, resident distress, or safety concerns to nursing staff.
Follow facility emergency procedures and applicable resident protection policies.
Treat residents, families, representatives, and facility staff with courtesy and professionalism.
Protect resident privacy and maintain confidentiality of information encountered while providing services.
Maintain accurate records of each service performed, including the resident’s name, service date, service type, and charge.
Submit itemized invoices or service records according to the service agreement.
Communicate appointment availability, cancellations, supply needs, and service concerns to the designated facility contact.
Maintain required credentials and complete applicable facility orientation and contractor screening requirements.
Current, valid cosmetology or barber license appropriate to the services provided and the state where services are performed.
Experience providing professional hair care services; experience with older adults or residents of healthcare facilities preferred.
Ability to work patiently and respectfully with residents who have dementia, disabilities, or complex care needs.
Knowledge of sanitation, equipment disinfection, and safe salon practices.
Strong communication, scheduling, and recordkeeping skills.
Required insurance coverage and documentation as specified in the service agreement.
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, bend and reach, use salon tools, and perform repetitive hand movements. Must be able to provide services safely around wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment and recognize when facility staff assistance is needed.
Payment is calculated using the agreed-upon rate for each authorized service actually performed and documented.
The service agreement will identify the responsible payer, billing process, payment schedule, and handling of cancellations or disputed charges.
Service rates and any changes must be coordinated with the facility and communicated before services are provided.
Appointment availability will be coordinated with the facility based on resident requests and operational needs.
Responsibility for tools, products, linens, equipment, and salon space will be specified in the service agreement.
