Job summary

Copeland is seeking a lead technician for the OFC bearing lab in Sidney, OH to design, develop, and qualify compressors for HVACR systems. You will lead a team of technicians and collaborate with product and research engineers to meet project goals.

The 3rd shift position requires hands-on leadership, training new hires, and driving results while upholding safety and 5s+1 practices in a fast-paced lab environment.

Based in our Sidney, OH location, you will work in conjunction with product and research engineers along with lab supervisors to design, develop, and qualify compressors for HVACR systems. We are seeking a lead technician to contribute to our overall growth and continued innovation in our HVACR labs, specifically the OFC bearing assembly lab.

AS THE 3 rd SHIFT OFC BEARING LEAD TECHNICIAN, YOU WILL:

• Lead a team of technicians that will assemble oil-free centrifugal bearings at our bearing lab on Stolle Avenue
• Assign work daily to meet customer demands and program deadlines
• Communicate daily schedule, concerns, and updates through supervisor and engineering teams
• Provide training and onboarding of new hires
• Become proficient in the bearing assembly process and assist in improvements, changes, and problem solving
• Provide performance coaching and mentorship to technicians
• Support technicians and management to create a safe and clean work environment using 5s+1 techniques and current safety procedures
• Support hands on work as needed

SCHEDULE:

This is a 3rd shift position with a flexible start time of 11:00 PM or 11:30 PM. 8 hour working shifts are required with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. We also offer 2, 10-minute breaks throughout the day. Our teams work together to ensure our chosen work schedules enable our creativity and productivity as we serve the needs of our customers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Associate degree or Certificate in technical discipline and three (3+) years relevant experience
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex projects into actionable tasks, create realistic timelines, and execute tasks
• Ability to effectively collaborate with other groups and product engineering
• Proven computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Exceptional communication (written & verbal) skills and team lead or management experience
• Experience in developing testing procedures, training documents, and creating logs of critical lab operational records
• Legal Authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this role

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Associate degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering, HVAC, Industrial Operations, or another engineering/manufacturing-related degree and (7+) years of experience
• Experience in developing testing procedures, training documents, and creating logs of critical lab operational records
• Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 compliance requirements for laboratory operations and experience in preparing laboratory for annual ISO/IEC 17025, UL and ANAB audits
• In-depth understanding of performance test lab metrics and KPIs
• Leadership experience with direct reports
• Experience in quality; ASQ Certification preferred
• Basic/intermediate level of statistics, physics, and math
• Excellent presentation skills
