Job summary

Beacon Outreach Coordinator (Rockaway YMCA) in Queens, NY is a Part-Time/Regular role. You will promote an inclusive, welcoming environment and engage hard-to-reach youth to participate in Beacon programming and school partnerships.

You will work with Counselors and the Beacon Director to plan meaningful programming, support training, and maintain safety and policy compliance while building strong relationships with community stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of education in a program area related to youth or communities.
• Minimum one year of experience with youth, families, and community development.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment for staff and participants.
• Facilitate outreach to hard-to-reach youth and young adults not in afterschool programs.
• Forge relationships with youth who are chronically absent or disengaged.
• Act as a credible messenger and address conflicts risking community cohesion.
• Assist in marketing and recruiting for beacon programming in targeted communities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and guardians.
• Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing by adhering to risk management procedures.
• Report incidents according to YMCA policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with Counselors and Beacon Director to plan programming and events.
• Support pre-program training and participate in meetings and events.
• Adhere to health, education, DYCD, and funder standards and regulations.

Location: Rockaway YMCA at The School by the Sea PS/MS43Q, Queens, NY

Responsibilities

• Promote an inclusive, welcoming, andrespectful environment that embraces the diversity of all staff andparticipants and promotes a positive program spirit.
• Facilitate effective outreach tohard-to-reach youth and young adults who do not participate in afterschoolor community center programs.
• Effectively forge relationships with youthwho are chronically absent or have dropped outof schooland persuadethem to engage in Beacon programming and school.
• Act as a “credible messenger”, maintainstrong community connections, and address conflicts that have thepotential to undermine community cohesion and trigger violentclashes.
• Assist in the marketing and distribution ofprogram information and recruitment in communities that might otherwiseattend beacon programming.
• Develop and maintain positive relationshipswith community stakeholders and parents/guardians through regularcommunication.
• Ensure participants' health, safety, andwell-being by understanding, maintaining, and ensuring that staff andparticipants follow Risk Management and safety procedures.
• Report all incidents in accordance with theY policies and procedures.
• Work with Counselors and the Beacon Directorto plan and implement meaningful programming and special events.
• Support the development and facilitation ofrequired pre-program training. Actively participate in training sessions,designated meetings, and special events.
• Adhere to all Department of Health,Department of Education, DYCD, YMCA of Greater New York, and funderstandards, expectations, and regulations.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of education in a program area related to workingwith youth and/or communities.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth, families, and community development, including social and emotional learning, skill-building, youth leadership, neighborhood priorities, trauma-informed approaches, provision of services for individuals with disabilities, and cultural competence, including sensitivity to LGBTQ issues.
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.
