Job summary

Sarasota County Government is seeking lifeguards to keep beaches safe in sunny Sarasota. Starting pay is $19.56 per hour with opportunities for growth and EMT certification supported by the County.

You will monitor beach conditions, assist the public, and complete incident and daily operational reports. Responsibilities include rescuing swimmers, providing first aid, CPR/AED/oxygen as needed, and operating County equipment while supporting learn-to-swim and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Pass Sarasota County’s Basic Lifeguard Performance Test (bi-annually).
• Complete Lifeguard Training Program, CPR and First Responder certifications (paid by County).
• Valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• EMT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Rescue swimmers in distress.
• Administer first aid, CPR/AED, oxygen as required per protocol.
• Operate County equipment (radios, vehicles, boats, jet skis) and perform maintenance.
• Assist in aquatic programs and beach safety/public instruction.
