About the Role

We are looking for an Outby Support teammate to work in our Blue Creek mine in Berry, Alabama. The role involves supporting the extraction and transportation of coal from the underground mine by assisting with the installation, maintenance, and removal of mine ventilation systems, conveyor belts, pumps, roof supports, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Follow all applicable State and Federal safety rules, regulations, laws, and Company safety guidelines and policies.
• Clean and inspect mine areas, equipment, and tools for hazards and defects.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and managers.
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to working safely and act as an advocate and leader of a safe work culture for all employees.
• Actively participate in daily safety meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous coal mining experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment.
• Effective communication with other team members and supervisors.

Environment and Safety

• Improve safety standards by holding meetings, conducting safety interactions, and taking corrective action.
• Ensure adherence to State, Federal, and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, assessment, and control.
• Maintain a high level of safety performance through communication, monitoring, and revision of standard procedures.
• Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage.
• Attend and participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
• Investigate accidents and near misses to promote positive action through training or equipment adjustments.
• Maintain environmental awareness by holding meetings and involving the environmental department in related subjects.
• Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans, and regulatory obligations.
• Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all organizational activities.

Physical Requirements - Underground

• Must be able to stand for long periods on uneven, rocky surfaces.
• Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
• Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.
• Must walk through mine sections with varying clearance and headroom, meeting MSHA emergency evacuation plan requirements.
• Must wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other PPE as required by Company and MSHA.
• Must bend or stoop throughout the work period due to mine height constraints.
• Must climb stairs/steps and ladders, and climb on/off equipment.
• Must perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and have quick reflex movements and good hand‑to‑eye coordination.
• Must lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
• Must work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, lighting conditions, and confined spaces.
