DESCRIPTION :
This is maintenance and personal services work in performing manual labor tasks related to the conservation and preservation of natural resources. Work may include collecting data, sampling, transporting species, netting species, tagging fish or wildlife, harvesting and replanting species, and making mechanical equipment repairs. Work is performed under immediate supervision.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:
- Collects data pertinent to conservation and preservation programs in order to assist technical and professional personnel.
- Paints buildings, repairs equipment, adjusts mechanical equipment, and performs various manual tasks in order to maintain buildings and equipment.
- Bails and samples monitoring wells at spill investigation sites in order to obtain representative groundwater samples.
- Nets and tags various species of marine life or upland game in order to assist in species studies.
- Samples residential water supply taps in order to obtain and transport samples for contamination examination by others.
- Observes field conditions such as noting location of wells, streams, ponds, gas stations, and fuel storage facilities in order to assist in spill site investigations.
- Collates data in order to create statistical summaries.
- Harvests, transports, and replants species of marine or wildlife in order to assist in replenishing species.
- Operates a variety of motorized equipment to assist in project activities.
- Locates and surveys species in order to determine suitability for harvesting or replenishment.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of the proper handling of marine life and wildlife.
- Knowledge of general buildings and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of wildlife identification and habits.
- Ability to perform minor repairs on motorized and sampling equipment.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to operate environmental sampling devices.
- Ability to operate automobiles and small boats.
- Ability to safely operate various types of motorized equipment to include tools of the carpentry trade.
- Ability to assist in various types of research.
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Knowledge and/or experience in conservation work and/or a high school diploma or equivalent.
