Job description

Coreshell's metallurgical Silicon anode technology delivers high capacity, fast-charging, and superior safety. Our low-cost Silicon-dominant batteries have higher energy density, superior intrinsic thermal safety, and significantly lower cost/kWh compared to current LIBs. Coreshell's Si anode material is lower than the cost of graphite and utilizes the largest abundant critical mineral supply in the US and Europe. We strive to transform the global energy and transportation market by enabling cost effective and secure domestic battery supply.

Position

The Battery Lab Technician plays a critical hands‑on role in Coreshell’s cell development program. You will be responsible for the day-to-day fabrication of developmental electrodes and cells, as well as executing electrochemical testing programs that generate the data our scientists need to advance next-generation battery chemistries. This is a highly collaborative, lab-intensive role suited for a technically skilled individual who takes pride in precision and consistency.

Core Responsibilities
  • Fabricate developmental electrodes: prepare slurries, coat electrodes using drawdown and slot‑die coaters, calender to target density, and cut, weigh, and inspect electrodes to meet dimensional and mass‑loading specifications.
  • Assemble coin cells, pouch cells, and small-format cylindrical cells in dry-room and glovebox environments, including safe preparation and handling of liquid electrolytes.
  • Set up, run, and monitor electrochemical test programs on battery cyclers.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and environments and manage consumable inventory.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and records; follow all chemical hygiene, PPE, and safety protocols and keep lab spaces clean and organized.
Required Experience
  • 1-3 years of hands‑on experience in a battery, electrochemistry, or materials laboratory (internship experience considered).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in electrode coating, calendering, and cell assembly (coin cell, pouch cell, or cylindrical).
  • Familiarity with battery cyclers (Arbin, Maccor, BioLogic, or similar) and basic test setup.
  • Comfortable working in dry-room and glovebox environments with air-sensitive materials.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to data integrity.
  • Ability to follow detailed written procedures and contribute to procedure development.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices including chemical handling, PPE requirements, and emergency procedures.
Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred. Candidates with an Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training combined with directly relevant laboratory experience will also be considered.

Additional

This role requires sustained work in a laboratory environment involving chemicals, solvents, and battery materials. Proper PPE and safety procedures must be followed at all times. Some weekend or extended-hours work may be required to support ongoing test programs.

Location & Benefits

San Leandro, CA. Full-time. $30-35/hour. Salary and equity options dependent on experience. Dental, vision, healthcare and 401(k) benefits are included. Applications will be screened as received.
