Job summary

Talanto is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer – Battery in San Francisco, CA to deliver end-to-end manufacturing and process solutions for our battery systems powering our products. You will define best-in-class cell, assembly, and integration processes, collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize energy density, cost, cosmetics, and reliability, and identify qualified suppliers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in battery/electromechanical manufacturing in related engineering roles.
• Experience with lithium-ion / lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, and/or battery pack assembly.
• Experience coordinating with global suppliers to establish and qualify manufacturing processes from NPI to mass production.
• Experience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to analyze failure modes and identify process or design root causes.
• Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards (e.g. UN38.3, IEC 62133, UL 1642/2054) a plus.
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Effectively communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to travel internationally, up to 15% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Define best-in-class battery cell, assembly, and integration processes.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers to optimize design and manufacturing processes.
• Identify and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment.
• Lead new battery assembly line and automation bring-up.
• Drive suppliers globally to optimize fabrication and pack integration.
• Use data to drive process decisions affecting design specifications.
