Job summary

Redwood Materials is seeking a Battery Software Integration Engineer to bridge second-life automotive batteries with scalable software platforms. The role focuses on software-defined energy storage architecture, integrating varied OEM packs into a unified system off-vehicle.

You will lead critical technical discussions with external OEMs, drive translation layers, and develop robust, containerized applications for BMS communication in a Linux environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in controls and software engineering for lithium-ion battery architectures.
• Proven software POC experience with external OEMs or cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in Rust, Python, and C/C++.
• Experience with automotive networks CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet.
• Ability to reverse-engineer and adapt OEM software for circular energy ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Lead software POC for external OEMs and bridge legacy hardware with software.
• Design translation layers and gateways for battery packs to our centralized system.
• Develop containerized applications for external BMS communication and data parsing.
• Build resilient CAN, Ethernet, and Modbus interfaces for varied OEM packs.
• Collaborate with power electronics, site controllers, controls teams, and BMS developers.
• Validate with simulations, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) platforms, and hardware tests.
