Job summary

SPM is building high-performance battery packs and mobility systems in Pittsburgh, PA. You will design, prototype and validate battery modules, scaling production across multi-cell configurations and integrating BMS considerations.

This role requires hands-on engineering, strong collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers, and willingness to be on-site in Pittsburgh for most activities. You will work across a multi-disciplinary team to push product performance and reliability in demanding

Qualifications

• 4+ years of electrical engineering design experience.
• 3+ years of battery pack design experience.
• 2+ years of battery pack prototyping experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience assembling electronics and battery packs, including soldering and wiring.
• Experience hand-spot welding aluminum case battery cells.
• Experience prototyping electrical systems and battery packs.
• Demonstrated experience in machining, fabrication, modification, and precise handling of mechanical components used in battery systems.
• Demonstrated ability to progress multi-disciplinary systems and products from initial concept to low scale production.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, follow technical documentation, and use standard measurement tools and shop equipment.
• Must be a self-starter who finds ways to advance the company overall once your own work is finished
• Clear communication skills, ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, and willingness to be on-site in Pittsburgh for hands-on work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, prototype and validate battery packs from 3.6V to 800V.
• Scale production for modules 1s5p to 14s9p and assemble 112s5p to 470V packs.
• Perform engineering calculations and review requirements and safety standards.
• Document designs, BOMs, and test results and collaborate with manufacturing and suppliers.
• Provide feedback on design changes from a manufacturing perspective.
• On-site work primarily in Pittsburgh with some tasks from home.
