This role requires hands-on engineering, strong collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers, and willingness to be on-site in Pittsburgh for most activities. You will work across a multi-disciplinary team to push product performance and reliability in demanding
SPM is building high-performance battery packs, power export systems, and ground mobility vehicles in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
We're building mobility products that change the landscape of how humans, energy and cargo move around. Calling our products impactful is an understatement - People's lives depend on our power systems and vehicles functioning perfectly time, and time again, in the harshest conditions on earth.
We're a dual use company and we interact with civilians, enterprise, and government stakeholders. You will be expected to act presentably and with respect to others. Our products and lines of business will continue to expand, foreseeing market and socioeconomic trends.
If you desire full ownership, zero babysitting, and the ability to progress through the ranks at a pace limited only by your own motivation - SPM is the company you must join. You will be surrounded by the most elite, uncompromising engineer, who also spare time to have fun and be normal people. Work is primarily in-person except in the case of maximum productivity being achieved from outside of the office/shop - this is rare. We recognize that everyone has a life outside of the office, so an unlimited paid time off policy is in place for full-time employees, with time off at manager discretion.
As we build the most well-known mobility company, you'll have the opportunity to expand your skillset in any way you see fit. You may start out here as an engineer, and soon learn that business development is your area of interest - you'll have the opportunity to pursue this interest. We believe everyone performs their best work doing what they are truly passionate about. The best part about SPM is seeing the satisfaction of our customers. Everybody we've delivered products to, given demos to, or interacted with has come away with more value having learned something new. You will travel across the United States and world visiting customers, suppliers, and attending demos/conferences.
As a Battery Pack Design Engineer you will responsible for designing, developing, prototyping and validating both low-voltage high-voltage battery packs - Voltages from 3.6V up to 800V, Capacities from 10 ah up to 100 kWh, or even in the mega-watt-hours (future). You will optimize current, and design new battery modules to make up larger voltage/capacity battery packs. You will ideally optimize and develop every component in the battery pack, including the battery management system.
Our battery packs are used for stationary energy storage, ground vehicles (manned and unmanned), aircraft (drones class 1-4), and watercraft.
We'll need your help scaling production of batteries. We are scaling battery production for multiple modules ranging from 1s5p to 14s5p and 14s9p. The 14s5p modules will be arranged into a 112s5p , 470V max battery pack.
