Job summary

EGI Battery is seeking a hands-on Battery Lab Technician in Ann Arbor, MI to support lithium-ion battery R&D, cell prototyping, testing, and daily lab operations.

The role requires following SOPs, maintaining safety, and data records while assisting engineers with experiments and prototype builds. On-site work focuses on domestic manufacturing and NDAA-compliant energy solutions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; associate degree or cert preferred.
  • 1–3 years hands-on experience in a lab or pilot-line environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs, safety procedures, and maintain detailed records.

Responsibilities

  • Electrode & cell fabrication: weighing, slurry mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, and cutting/punching; support cell assembly including electrolyte filling and sealing.
  • R&D and prototype support: assist engineers with experiments, material evaluations, and prototype builds; prepare samples and fixtures and report observations.
  • Battery testing and data collection: set up and run formation, cycling, capacity, rate, and DCIR/ACIR testing; organize test data and flag abnormal cell behavior.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance: operate mixers, coaters, gloveboxes, cyclers; conduct calibration and maintenance.
  • Materials and inventory: maintain lab consumables and materials; label, store, and track chemicals per procedures.
  • Safety and organization: keep lab spaces clean and compliant with PPE; dispose of cells and chemicals properly.
  • Documentation: record experimental data accurately and provide feedback on SOPs and workflow.

EGI Battery is a U.S.-based manufacturer of advanced lithium-ion batteries, focused on delivering NDAA-compliant energy solutions for critical applications. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, EGI is building a secure, domestic supply chain to support the growing demand for high-performance batteries in drone, eVTOL, and energy storage markets.

Position Summary

EGI Battery is seeking a hands-on Battery Lab Technician to support lithium-ion battery R&D, cell prototyping, testing, and day-to-day laboratory operations. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable following SOPs while adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced battery R&D environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrode & cell fabrication: Perform material weighing, slurry mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, and cutting/punching; support coin, single-layer, and multi-layer pouch cell assembly, including electrolyte filling and sealing.
  • R&D and prototype support: Assist engineers with experiments, material evaluations, and prototype builds; prepare samples and fixtures, and report observations and abnormal results.
  • Battery testing and data collection: Set up and run formation, cycling, capacity, rate, and DCIR/ACIR testing on battery cyclers; organize test data and flag abnormal cell behavior.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance: Safely operate mixers, coaters, gloveboxes, cyclers, and other lab equipment; perform routine inspection, calibration checks, and preventive maintenance.
  • Materials and inventory: Maintain lab consumables and battery materials, monitor inventory levels, and properly label, store, and track chemicals per lab procedures.
  • Safety and organization: Maintain clean, organized lab spaces; follow EHS and PPE requirements; properly handle and dispose of cells, electrolytes, and chemical waste.
  • Documentation: Accurately record experimental data, maintain sample/cell traceability, and provide practical feedback on SOPs and workflow improvements.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required; Associate degree or technical certification in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering Technology preferred.
  • 1–3 years of hands‑on experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or pilot‑line environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow SOPs, work instructions, and safety procedures with a strong hands‑on mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and lab data‑recording software.
  • Prior experience in a lithium‑ion battery lab, gloveboxes/dry rooms, electrolyte handling, or battery cyclers is a plus.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States; EGI Battery does not sponsor employment visas for this position at this time.
