Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and characterize lithium-ion battery cells.
  • Assemble battery components into functional prototypes.
  • Conduct mechanical and chemical property testing.
  • Conduct mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical tests with advanced lab tools.
  • Maintain SOPs and calibrate lab equipment as needed.
  • Design test setups using metrology to assess performance.
  • Collect and analyze data using LabVIEW and spreadsheets.

One of the country's largest electric vehicle manufacturers is seeking a hands-on Validation Technician to join their dynamic Battery R&D team onsite in Hayward, CA. In this role, you will play a central part in advancing next-generation battery technology, taking a direct role in the development and testing of cutting-edge energy storage solutions. This exciting opportunity kicks off as a 12-month W2 contract offering competitive benefits and the potential for extension or permanent conversion. The position is based 100% onsite at a state-of-the-art research facility in Hayward, CA, offering you direct access to world-class equipment and collaborative cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Work hands-on in a research lab setting, preparing and characterizing lithium-ion battery cells and related materials, always prioritizing safety protocols.
  • Assemble battery components, including cells and sensors, into functional prototypes.
  • Fabricate test samples of adhesives, seals, tapes, and other polymeric materials using precision dispensing tools and instrumentation.
  • Conduct mechanical, thermal, electrical, and chemical property testing using a variety of advanced laboratory tools.
  • Maintain and follow standard operating procedures, as well as perform routine upkeep and calibration of lab equipment.
  • Design and construct test setups utilizing metrology and instrumentation to assess material and prototype performance.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data using tools such as LabVIEW, proprietary equipment software, and spreadsheets.
  • Actively contribute to team goals and foster strong cross-functional collaboration while contributing to a culture of innovation and excellence.

Skills & Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Prior technician or laboratory experience in battery development or material science, with a focus on lithium-ion technology preferred.
  • Solid understanding of lab safety best practices and familiarity with operating laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, thermal chambers, pumps, chillers, compressed gas systems, and various sensors).
  • Experience building assemblies using machined, injection-molded, or 3D-printed parts.
  • Strong foundation in physics concepts, including current, voltage, resistance, thermal properties, pressure, and fluid flow.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to stay focused on deliverables in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to adapt, learn new instrumentation, and maintain accurate technical records
