Role Description

Form Energy is hiring an early-career Battery Engineer (Engineer I or II) to join our Anode Design and Performance Team, which brings together materials, battery, test, and process engineers to understand, design, and validate Form Energy\'s iron negative electrode (anode). Reporting to the Staff Battery Engineer, you will run electrochemical tests on iron electrodes and cells, build subscale prototype cells, prepare and characterize samples, and organize the resulting data to help the team understand and improve anode performance. This is a hands-on, lab-based role with daily mentorship from senior engineers - an excellent first or early-career industry role for someone who wants to learn battery and materials engineering quickly while making a direct impact on a technology built to tackle climate change. Join us and be part of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What you\'ll do:
  • Prioritize safety in all lab work, from test setup and battery operation through end-of-life teardown and post-test investigation.
  • Execute and interpret electrochemical tests on iron electrodes and cells in lab- and large-scale test vehicles - with support from senior engineers early on and growing independence as you develop.
  • Prepare and characterize electrode samples pre- and post-test (for example SEM, EDS, BET, XRD, PSA) in collaboration with our internal material experts.
  • Support and help improve electrochemical testing by writing and running test protocols, troubleshooting failures, and maintaining cells on test.
  • Wrangle and organize data from test stands and electrochemical cells, help identify trends, and provide regular data updates to the team to enable data-based decisions.
  • Build your technical foundation in Form\'s anode technology and contribute to team problem-solving, proposing improvements to methods and analyses as you grow.
What you\'ll bring:
  • Bachelor\'s degree (Master\'s a plus) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 0-3 years of experience - including internships, co-ops, or academic research - in electrochemistry, battery testing, or materials characterization.
  • A foundational understanding of electrochemistry and/or materials science and a hands-on aptitude for lab work; for Engineer II, some hands-on experience running electrochemical tests or materials characterization.
  • For Engineer II, some experience with aqueous (water-based) battery systems: full cells or flow cells.
  • Comfort handling and analyzing data; familiarity with a scripting or statistical tool (Python, JMP, or similar) is a plus.
  • Some familiarity with SQL fundamentals and extracting data from databases is a plus.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A growth mindset and a preference for experiential, hands-on learning, with the ability to take direction and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technicians.

Humanity is a cornerstone of Form Energy\'s culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that. Form Energy offers competitive salaries, stock options, and a holistic benefits package to ensure all employees have what they need to thrive while working here.
