Job summary

SGS is seeking a Test Technician — Battery & Energy Storage to perform regulatory compliance testing on lithium-ion cells, modules and BESS for U.S. and international standards. You will prepare reports, conduct risk assessments, and communicate findings to clients.

Role requires 2–5 years in battery testing, strong data analysis, and ability to travel up to 25%. The position includes comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with practical electrical/electronics focus.
• 2–5 years in battery/energy storage testing or related lab work.
• Knowledge of Li-ion failure, thermal runaway, cell-to-pack safety.
• Experience with data acquisition, thermocouples, cycling chambers.
• Ability to work safely around high-energy electrical systems and PPE use.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; travel up to 25%.
• Strong written and verbal communication for risk assessments and reports.
• Proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for data reduction is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute battery and BESS compliance testing to UL/IEC standards.
• Prepare and review TRFs ensuring traceability of data to requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments and FMEAs for battery systems.
• Support large-scale and unit-level fire testing programs (UL 9540A).
• Set up and operate standard test equipment; calibrate fixtures.
• Record data accurately and perform basic data analysis.
• Interface with client engineering to resolve non-conformances.
• Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance across tests.
• Maintain equipment and facilities; draft technical reports as needed.
