Job summary

The City of Joplin, MO, seeks an experienced Fire Department supervisor to manage the operations of fire suppression/EMS personnel on an assigned shift.

This internal posting requires five years of professional fire suppression experience and at least two years as a Captain or equivalent, plus IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter I & II, Missouri EMT-Basic, and completion of Fire Officer I & II and Driver/Engineer Academy.

Qualifications

• Five years of professional full-time fire suppression experience
• At least two years as a Captain or equivalent rank
• Valid state driver’s license and firefighter certifications (IFSAC/ProBoard) I/II
• Missouri EMT-Basic certification; Fire Officer I & II; Driver/Engineer Academy completed

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day activities of all fire suppression and EMS staff across stations on assigned shifts
• Inspect stations and equipment for readiness and safety
• Utilize Incident Command System to manage incidents and command as needed
• Serve as Incident Commander on fire, EMS, or rescue calls when required
• Provide post-incident support and referrals to victims
• Coordinate training and development for staff
• Engage with community groups to educate on fire safety and prevention
• Evaluate staff performance and implement improvement plans
• Coach direct reports and provide formal feedback
• Adhere to city policies and maintain satisfactory attendance
