Job summary

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Battalion Chief to direct and manage the day-to-day operations of a designated technical support operation within the Division of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services.

Responsibilities include ensuring regulatory compliance, resource management, and personnel development while maintaining safety and continuous improvement, with duties expanding to strategic incident command and response leadership.

Qualifications

• Education – Associate degree in related field.
• Experience – 10 years’ firefighter with at least 3 years in a supervisory rank.
• Currently in a supervisory rank and active in that role at the time of application.
• Certifications include Florida Firefighter II, EMT or Paramedic, Fire Officer II, Instructor I+.
• Florida Pump Operator, G300/G400 ICS, and Florida Incident Safety Officer within 12 months.
• Valid Driver License and satisfactory annual performance evaluation.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s in Fire Science or Emergency Management.

Responsibilities

• Directs day-to-day operations of assigned technical support within Fire Rescue and Emergency Services.
• Develops and presents departmental goals, policies, and priorities for approval.
• Conducts inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and quality improvements.
• Manages personnel, transfers, promotions, and performance within the department.
• Prepares, monitors budgets, and coordinates purchasing and grants reporting.
• Plans staffing allocation and ensures efficient use of agency resources.
• Responds to emergencies, leads incident command, and directs scene activities.
• Maintains equipment, vehicles and inventory for operational readiness.
