Job summary

Players Sport & Social Group in Chicago seeks reliable referees to officiate adult basketball leagues city-wide. You will enforce rules, keep games on schedule, and ensure fair play while handling conduct issues with professionalism.

Ideal candidates have experience officiating or playing basketball, strong decision-making under pressure, excellent communication, and live in the Chicago area with weekday evening availability (6-10 PM). In-person, part-time role with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Reliability and punctuality for every scheduled shift.
• Strong communication with players, captains and staff.
• Solid working knowledge of basketball rules.
• Prior basketball officiating or playing experience.
• Confidence making decisions under pressure, even when calls are contested.
• Enthusiastic, positive attitude and team spirit.
• Availability for weeknight evenings (roughly 6–10 PM).
• Based in the Chicago area with reliable transportation to venues across the city.

The RoleWe're looking for reliable, enthusiastic referees to officiate our adult recreational basketball leagues across the city. • Communicate clearly and professionally with players, captains, and league staff
• Track and report scores at the end of each game
• Represent PSSG's fun, social spirit on and off the field

What We're Looking For

• Reliability — you show up on time for every scheduled shift
• Strong communication skills and an even temperament
• Solid working knowledge of basketball rules
• Prior basketball officiating or playing experience
• Confidence making decisions under pressure, including when calls are contested
• An enthusiastic, positive attitude
• Availability for weeknight evenings, roughly 6-10 PM
• Based in the Chicago area with reliable transportation to venues across the city

Nice to Have

• Formal officiating training or certification
• Experience with adult recreational or social sports leagues

Schedule & Pay

• Employment type: Part-time, ongoing across multiple seasons per year
• Pay: $25 - $30 per game (45-minute games), paid monthly
• Schedule: Weeknight evenings - pick up as many or as few games as your week allows
