Job summary

Zeta Charter Schools in New York City is seeking a Basketball Coach to deliver engaging instruction that develops middle school students' athletic skills, teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong love of the game.

The role is on-site at multiple middle school campuses with a July 2027 or sooner start date. Salary ranges from $65,000 to $105,500 and reports to the Assistant Principal of Specialty. We value growth, collaboration, and high standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field.
• Experience coaching basketball through coaching, after-school or community programs, camps, clinics, or leagues.
• Full-time experience teaching or coaching basketball in elementary, middle, or high school setting is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience coaching competitive basketball teams, with a track record of preparing athletes for games and tournaments, developing team strategy, and building strong team culture.
• Deep knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and player development, with the ability to translate your expertise into rigorous, accessible, and engaging instruction.
• A passion for developing students’ athletic skills, teamwork, self-confidence, and discipline, paired with high expectations for every student’s growth.

What you’ll be doing

In the Basketball Coach role, you will:

• Bring a bold vision of excellence in basketball to life by designing and delivering exceptional, skill-based instruction that develops students' athletic ability, basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence.
• Build a joyful, inclusive, and rigorous learning environment that inspires discipline, sportsmanship, a genuine love of the game, and a strong sense of belonging.
• Drive ambitious student and program outcomes, maintaining 100% enrollment across clubs and teams, successfully completing all required Specialty events, and using data and student work to monitor progress, refine instruction, accelerate student growth, and ensure 80%+ of students pass unit assessments.
• Lead a high-quality, competitive after-school basketball program, developing team strategy, preparing student-athletes for games and tournaments, and building the skills, discipline, and team culture needed to compete successfully.
• Build authentic, meaningful relationships with students and families to support each student's growth and success.
• Collaborate closely with leaders and colleagues and participate in weekly professional development, applying feedback to continually strengthen your instruction.
• Contribute actively to whole-school priorities and initiatives, providing instructional and community support wherever needed.
