Job summary

The Legal Aid Society of Rochester is seeking a Social Worker to join the Basic Needs Team. You will screen clients, identify non-legal needs, develop action plans, and connect clients with government and community resources throughout civil cases.

Responsibilities include home visits, referrals, court support, and collaboration with attorneys. The role requires strong communication, compassion for diverse clients, and ability to travel to client sites in Rochester.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field required.
• MSW is a plus.
• Relevant New York State social work licensure or eligibility for licensure preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients in various settings to identify needs and gather information for service planning.
• Screen and assess clients' non-legal needs and identify resources and interventions.
• Develop and implement individualized client action plans addressing basic needs.
• Assist clients with applications for public benefits, housing, and other resources.
• Make referrals to government agencies and community organizations.
• Follow up to ensure referrals are accessible and appropriate.
