The Legal Aid Society of Rochester is seeking a Social Worker to join the Basic Needs Team, providing supportive services to clients in legal cases and beyond. You will screen, assess, plan, and connect clients with government and community resources, including benefits, housing, food, and financial assistance, while collaborating with attorneys and team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field is required; MSW is a plus.
• Relevant NYS licensure or eligibility for licensure preferred but not required.
• Experience serving clients facing poverty, housing instability, or basic-needs barriers preferred.
• Knowledge of public benefits, housing resources, and community services preferred.
• Strong initiative, independence, organization, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients in various settings to identify needs and plan services.
• Assess non-legal needs and connect clients with resources and interventions.
• Develop individualized action plans to address basic needs.
• Assist with applications for public benefits, housing, food and financial support.
• Make referrals to government agencies, legal, healthcare, and community resources.
• Follow up to ensure services are provided and accessible.
• Support clients during court proceedings and hearings as needed.
• Maintain timely case notes and documentation in the system.
• Collaborate with attorneys and team members on client plans.
