What is the Basic Firefighter Academy?

An excellent firefighter is a responsible and brave professional who is well-trained in dealing with emergencies and enduring difficult situations. Calmness, patience, good communication skills, and compassionate personality are all traits of a firefighter. Firefighters provide fire protection, rescue, and emergency services, hazardous materials response, investigate scenes, provide public education, and commercial fire safety inspections.

What Will I Learn?
  • Identify and understand the safety and orientation of the fire service.
  • Utilization, care, and maintenance of self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Donning, doffing, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Proficiency in fire behavior recognition.
  • Proficiency in the use of water supplies.
  • Proficiency in the use of ropes, knots, and hitches.
  • Proficiency in the use of ladders and hoses.
  • Proficiency in the use of portable extinguishers.
  • Application of proper rescue technique.
  • Demonstrate efficiency in and identify the use of Fire Streams.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of Fire Protection Systems.
  • Recognize and demonstrate Hazardous Materials mitigation skills.
