Job summary

The Department of Military Affairs seeks a Military Environmental Specialist at the Capital Airbase in Springfield. Under the supervision of the Base Environmental Coordinator, the role manages hazardous waste, used oil, recycling programs and helps ensure compliance with environmental permits.

You will inspect waste points, coordinate recycling efforts, sample discharges, and assist in air emissions inventories, with duties expanding to other environmental quality tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with coursework in physical, life, or environmental science.
• One year of professional experience in environmental waste management or related field.
• Working knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Inspects hazardous waste accumulation points for compliance with RCRA and state laws.
• Serves as the base-wide recycling program point of contact and manages related funds.
• Samples discharges and evaluates data to ensure permit compliance.
• Formulates air emissions inventory and assists with related directives.
