Job summary

SCR is seeking a Building Automation Systems Programmer to design, configure, commission, and troubleshoot BAS for commercial facilities. You translate drawings and sequences into functional control programs and operator interfaces, supporting startup and turnover with project teams.

A successful candidate will have strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, BAS protocols, and field/networking diagnostics. Travel to project sites is required; a technical degree in HVAC/Automation is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience with commercial BAS (programming, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting).
• Knowledge of HVAC systems and sequences of operation.
• Ability to read mechanical plans, control drawings, wiring diagrams, specs, and sequences of operation.
• Understanding of BACnet or similar BAS protocols.
• Basic Ethernet networking knowledge (IP addressing, serial comms).
• Ability to troubleshoot control programming, field devices, and HVAC operation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work independently or in a team.
• Strong verbal and written communication; valid driver’s license and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement BAS software solutions.
• Program, configure, and integrate BAS controllers, devices, and systems from multiple manufacturers.
• Interpret mechanical plans, control drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
• Develop BAS graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, and operator interfaces.
• Perform system startup, commissioning, and functional testing.
• Integrate third-party equipment using BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus, and similar protocols.
• Coordinate with project managers, technicians, electricians, mechanical contractors, engineers, and customers.
• Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams.
• Stay current with industry trends and advancements in BAS technology.
• Adhere to safety policies and regulatory requirements; use PPE and report hazards.
