Job summary

Hoffman & Hoffman, Inc. is seeking an Associate Automation Engineer in Atlanta, GA to support the design, programming, and integration of building automation systems. You will assist with PLC/DDC programming, HMI/SCADA development, and field commissioning under senior engineers’ guidance.

Ideal candidates have 0–3+ years in automation, a related degree, and a willingness to learn company standards and architecture. Travel up to 30% may be required for client sites and commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or Associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 0–3+ years in industrial automation, instrumentation and controls, PLC/DDC programming, or related field.
• Familiarity with PLC/DDC and HMI configuration, industrial networking, and/or HVAC systems preferred.
• Familiarity with construction site environments and field devices (instruments, valves, drives) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform product selection for common automation systems and support generation of accurate control system drawings.
• Instantiate graphics and configure HMI/SCADA screens in alignment with company standards.
• Support basic PLC and DDC programming tasks using standard templates and libraries.
• Assist with testing, device verification, and troubleshooting during bench testing, FAT, and site startup; travel may be required (up to 30%).
• Maintain accurate project documentation including IO lists, sequences, specs, and test protocols.
• Follow safety procedures and participate in required safety training (e.g., OSHA-10).
• Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards for right-first-time and on-time delivery.
