Job summary

Marcus Hotels & Resorts is seeking a skilled bartender for the Saint Kate property in Milwaukee. You will greet guests, prepare and present drinks, handle cash, and maintain a clean bar area while ensuring compliance with liquor regulations.

The role requires 1–2 years of bartending experience, a Bartending certificate, and TIPS certification, with CPR/First Aid training preferred. Evening/night availability is necessary, with benefits including meals and discounts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain proper and adequate set-up of the bar daily and stock beverages and supplies.
  • Greet guests and take, document, and promote drink orders.
  • Mix, garnish, and present drinks using standard recipes and portion control.
  • Input orders into the POS and balance guest checks and cash drops.
  • Maintain bar cleanliness and assist lounge guests when needed.
  • Follow liquor regulations for serving minors and intoxicated guests.

Description
POSITION PURPOSE:

To be an artist of drinks and making conversations that give the ability to build lasting connections by serving beverages and/or food to the guests in a friendly, courteous, and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain proper and adequate set-up of the bar on a daily basis including requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws, stirrers, condiments, and produce based on projections from the daily functions sheet.
  • Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting and storing of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices and other perishables daily to ensure product quality.
  • Greet guests in a courteous and friendly manner, promote and document orders for drinks. Mix, garnish, and present drinks using standard ingredient recipes and practicing prudent portion control.
  • Input orders into a register at the point of sale and creates a check for each guest and personnel guests, including those served by other beverage servers, to maintain accountability of all beverages served.
  • Maintain condition and cleanliness of bar and guest areas throughout shift.
  • Assist and or provide service to all guests sitting in the lounge but not at the bar itself when the occasion arises.
  • Receive cash from guests, make any change needed, verify validity of charges, record charges, and insure vouchers are properly executed in order to balance all moneys.
  • Lock up and store all beverages, food, and other equipment items.
  • Deposit cash drops and secures bank.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard cleaning products as assigned by supervisor to adhere to health standards
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested e.g., special guest requests.
  • Must adhere to all State, Federal, and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests to ensure all laws are being followed.
  • Other duties as assigned such as assisting security with disorderly guests.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have evening/night availability*
  • Must have basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation and service of various alcoholic beverages.
  • Basic mathematical skills necessary to operate a cash register, make change, total guest checks, count total bank, prepare cash drops, total all other charges, and understand portion sizes.
  • Basic English language writing skills necessary for completion of requisitions, balance sheets, and vouchers.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity in hands in order to use a knife to make garnishes, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, mix drinks, and reach overhead to retrieve stock.
  • Ability to read, speak, and understand the English language in order to communicate with guests and take orders.
  • Ability to remember, recite, and promote a variety of menu items.
  • Ability to operate a keyboard and perform point of sale procedures to pre-check an order and close out a check.
  • Ability to stand and work in confined spaces for long periods of time.
  • 1-2 years of bartending experience required.
  • Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate. CPR certification and/or First Aid Training preferred. Bartending certificate required. TIPS certification required.
