Job summary

Hotel Saint Augustine, a Bunkhouse Hotels property in Houston's Montrose district, seeks a Full Time Bartender to join the Cocktail Lounge team. You will take beverage orders, mix cocktails, and serve items from the bar menu while delivering a genuine welcome and upholding company culture.

The role requires six months of hospitality experience, excellent communication, and the ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry.
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace.
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons.
• Mix ingredients to prepare and garnish cocktails and other beverages according to Bunkhouse standards.
• Serve snacks or food items to customers as requested or submit order to Kitchen.
• Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.
• Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
• Help plan and organize the menu and operations of the Cocktail Lounge or Bar.
• Ensure immediate response is given to all guest comments and concerns and inform immediate supervisor of concerns.
• Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.
• Balance receipts and ensure payment is received from guests.
• Limit problems and liability related to customers’ intoxication; order taxis when needed.
• Order or requisition liquors and supplies.
• Ask disruptive customers to leave.
• Maintain high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area.

Your role

As Bartender you will mix and serve drinks to patrons (directly or through wait staff), wait on bar patrons and serve items from the bar menu. A Bartender must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflicts and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. All Bunkhouse/Hyatt employees are expected to greet all guests in proximity and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, Bartenders must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners.

• Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers’ excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons
• Order or requisition liquors and supplies
• Ask customers who become loud and unruly to leave
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed.Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Physical Requirements

• Able to perform the essential functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting quality standards.

• Must be able to sit, stand, and squat frequently.
