Job summary

The Sonnenalp Hotel of Vail is hiring full-time and part-time seasonal baristas for the 2026-2027 winter season. The Treff Café barista role focuses on exceptional guest service, order input, beverage preparation, and cash handling within a high-volume setting.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of barista experience, English fluency, and flexibility for long hours, weekends, and holidays; housing and ongoing training are available.

Qualifications

  • TIPS certification preferred, and required once employed.

  • English fluency required.

Responsibilities

  • Set Treff Café for business: opening, closing and weekly side work duties.
  • Prepare room for service; refill condiments and perform prep tasks.
  • Know menu items and ingredients; answer guest questions.
  • Stay updated on current menu and specials; inform guests of offerings.
  • Make recommendations and upsell items; serve food and drinks.

Start every guest's day with exceptional coffee and genuine hospitality. The Sonnenalp Hotel is hiring Full-Time and Part-Time Seasonal Baristas for the 2026-2027 winter season. Whether preparing handcrafted beverages or providing friendly, personalized service, you'll help create memorable moments for guests visiting our café during one of Vail's most exciting seasons.

Wage: $17.00, plus tips

Application Deadline: Hiring will occur on a rolling basis. Applications will be accepted until October 1st or until the positions are filled.

Winter Seasonal Dates: 11/04/2026 - 4/11/2027 - Can change based on business levels.

Primary Purpose Of Position

The Treff Café barista / bartender is responsible for exceptional guest service. This will include all aspects of great customer service, order input, preparation, delivery and payment processing. The Barista will need to be able to prioritize and manage time correctly. They will work the register, prepare menu items, and keep the café clean and well stocked for service throughout the entire shift. They will be responsible for correct cash handling and daily check outs. The position requires working closely with a high volume of demanding clientele and other staff. The Barista must not only be congenial, but able to appropriately deal with customers and fellow workers. At all times, the barista is expected to be attentive to our guest needs and making them feel welcome, comfortable, important and relaxed.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Set Treff Café for business: responsible for all assigned opening, closing and weekly side work duties
  • Prepare room for service. Make sure condiments are refilled, perform all other preparation task.
  • Have knowledge of all menu items and ingredients and answer guest questions about food and drinks
  • Stay updated on current menu choices, specialties and menu deviations
  • Inform guests off food and drink specials
  • Make suggestions and recommend options
  • Serve food and drink while creating a professional and caring relationship with customers
  • Assist guests with to go orders or serve to tables in and outside
  • Great all guests warmly with an appearance standards consistently
  • Fill in for absent staff as needed
  • Perform basic cleaning tasks as needed or directed by supervisor
  • Keep a safe and clean working environment for staff as well as guests
  • Have knowledge of the hotel and be able to cross-sell various departments and activities
  • Adhere to grooming and appearance standards consistently
  • Adhere to LHW standards at all times
  • Participate in related F&B training programs such as coffee training and liquor/wine training as needed
  • Act as a responsible, personable representative of the Sonnenalp team
Education/Experience
  • One year of barista experience preferred
  • TIPS certification preferred, and required once employed
  • Must be over the age of 18
Special Skills/Equipment
  • Excellent guest service skills
  • Personable disposition which is maintained in high pressure situations required
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Common sense of urgency required
  • Should be prepared to work long hours and variable schedule, to include holidays and weekend
  • English fluency required
Essential Physical Requirements
  • Position primarily performed indoors assisting a variety of guests
  • Working conditions will vary with season; high traffic during peak season, medium traffic during off season
  • Ability to regularly carry up to 40 lbs
  • Should be prepared to work long hours and able to stand for an extended time
