Job summary

The Barista Trainee position with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde is to develop enthusiastically satisfied customers by making quality coffee drinks at the Grand Ronde Coffee Cart. Start at 7:45 am; six-month duration, with a focus on guest service, product knowledge, and up-selling.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent and the ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate. Some driving may be required; familiarity with Native American culture is preferred.

Starting Wage Range: $16.00/hr. - $16.00/hr.

Job Summary:

The Barista Trainee position is to develop enthusiastically satisfied customers all of the time by making and serving quality coffee drinks in the Grand Ronde Coffee Cart. Baristas are responsible for providing excellent guest service, drink samples and utilizing up-sell and cross-sell methods to increase sales of drinks and snack items. Limited duration of six months.

Essential Functions:

• Provides quality beverages consistently for all guests.
• Welcomes and connects with every guest. Develops rapport with guests by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items.
• Sells and serves baked goods, snacks, smoothies, and miscellaneous food items to guests.
• Discover guest needs and appropriately suggests product to every guest to enhance service and meet sales goals.
• Accurately processes transactions through the POS and counts change back to the customer.
• Responds to guests’ needs and say “thank you” to every guest.
• Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
• Adheres to all company recipes and measurements.
• Knowledge of all drinks on the menu and being able to verbally explain to customers.
• Start at the coffee cart at 7:45 am.
• Help restock the coffee cart as needed.
• Helps barista make and give lists of supplies needed to TERO Director/Staff on a weekly basis to keep a supply on hand at a comfortable level.
• Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Driving Requirements:

• This position may require driving.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

• Ability to multi-task
• State of Oregon Food Handler’s Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
• Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
• Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
• Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
• This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is routinely subject to outside environmental conditions.
• May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
• Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
