Job summary

Wheeling Hospital is seeking a café associate to manage daily beverage preparation, cash handling, and guest service with a strong emphasis on sanitation and patient/customer safety. You will work in a fast-paced hospital café environment across shifts and will follow WV health guidelines to ensure quality service.

Ideal candidates have a food handlers card, six months of coffee shop experience, and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

  • Current Food Handlers card required; if not current, obtain within 30 days via approved programs.
  • Preferred High school diploma or GED.
  • Six months of prior food service/barista experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages using blenders, coffee makers, grinders and espresso machines.
  • Maintain sanitation, safety and quality control per department policies and WV health guidelines.
  • Take inventory, place orders, receive and store supplies.
  • Operate cash register, count and balance starting cash and end-of-shift totals.
  • Keep work areas and utensils clean and sanitized; monitor temps of freezers/refrigerators.
  • Describe and promote items to customers in a positive, service-driven manner.

This position will oversee assigned cafe functions including but not limited to: payment handling, product preparation and service and general cleanliness. In addition, this position will ensure that safety, sanitation, customer service and positive customer experiences are maintained at all times.

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • Current Food Handlers card as required by the local County Health Department. If not current on hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire through ONE of the following:
  • StateFoodSafety.com
  • Servsafe National Restaurant Association
  • Local County Health Department
Preferred Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
  • High school diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience
  • Six (6) months previous food services barista experience.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages utilizing blenders, coffer makers and grinders and espresso machines.
  • Ensures that all activities meet sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies and the West Virginia Department of Health.
  • Takes inventory, places orders, retrieves orders, and puts orders away.
  • Runs cash register, retrieving initial bank of money, verifies amounts, balances out bank at the end of shift.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, equipment and service areas.
  • Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and hot holding equipment.
  • Describe and promote items to customers in a positive and service driven way.
  • Serve and prepare hot and cold items.
  • Routinely clean, straight and restock all food items and supplies.
  • Sweep and mop floors retrieving trash and taking out to dumpster.
  • Label and date food items as appropriate.
  • Create signage daily as directed.
  • Lock down café at end of meal service and return cash bag as directed.

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs., push and pull up to 150 lbs.
  • Requires significant walking throughout several buildings.
