This position will oversee assigned cafe functions including but not limited to payment handling, product preparation and service, and general cleanliness. In addition, this position will ensure that safety, sanitation, customer service and positive customer experiences are maintained at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Food Handlers card as required by the local County Health Department.
- If not current on hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire through one of the following:

- Servsafe National Restaurant Association
- Local County Health Department
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
Experience
- Six (6) months previous food services barista experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve hot and cold beverages utilizing blenders, coffee makers and grinders, and espresso machines.
- Ensure that all activities meet sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies and the West Virginia Department of Health.
- Take inventory, place orders, retrieve orders, and put orders away.
- Run the cash register, retrieve initial bank of money, verify amounts, and balance out the bank at the end of shift.
- Clean and sanitize work areas, utensils, equipment and service areas.
- Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators and hot holding equipment.
- Describe and promote items to customers in a positive and service‑driven way.
- Serve and prepare hot and cold items.
- Routinely clean, straighten and restock all food items and supplies.
- Sweep and mop floors, retrieve trash and take it to the dumpster.
- Label and date food items as appropriate.
- Create signage daily as directed.
- Lock down the café at the end of meal service and return the cash bag as directed.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, push and pull up to 150 lbs.
- Requires significant walking throughout several buildings.
Working Environment
- Ability to work in a noisy, somewhat chaotic environment (dealing with customers while trying to fill and deliver orders).
- May require transportation of food service products.
- Ability to understand written and oral communication.
- Work in an isolated environment.
- Exposed to outside extreme environments (summer heat, winter cold, weather).
