Description

Summary: The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving high-quality coffee beverages, teas, pastries, and other café offerings while delivering exceptional guest service. This position creates a welcoming atmosphere for guests by providing prompt, friendly, and personalized service while maintaining the highest standards of product quality, cleanliness, food safety, and operational excellence. The Barista contributes to the success of the Food & Beverage operation by ensuring an efficient, well-stocked, and organized café environment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Guest Service


  • Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting every guest in a warm, friendly, and professional manner.

  • Anticipate guest needs and provide personalized recommendations based on menu offerings.

  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest questions, requests, and concerns, escalating issues to management when appropriate.

  • Foster a welcoming environment that reflects the service standards and culture of Scholar Hotels.


Beverage and Food Preparation


  • Prepare and serve coffee, espresso beverages, teas, and other specialty drinks according to established recipes and presentation standards.

  • Prepare and serve pastries, sandwiches, and grab-and-go food items while maintaining quality, freshness, and presentation standards.

  • Operate espresso machines, coffee brewers, grinders, blenders, and other café equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Monitor product quality and ensure consistency in beverage preparation.


Cash Handling and Café Operations


  • Accurately process cash, credit card, mobile payment, and room charge transactions.

  • Balance cash drawer and follow established cash handling procedures.

  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including preparing workstations, stocking products, and securing equipment.

  • Restock food, beverages, paper products, and supplies throughout the shift to maintain efficient operations.

  • Notify management of inventory shortages, equipment concerns, or maintenance needs.


Food Safety and Cleanliness


  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area at all times.

  • Clean and sanitize espresso machines, brewing equipment, countertops, display cases, and food preparation areas.

  • Follow all company policies, health department regulations, food safety standards, and sanitation procedures.

  • Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles and monitor expiration dates to maintain product freshness.


Sales and Revenue Generation


  • Promote featured beverages, seasonal offerings, and food items through suggestive selling techniques.

  • Demonstrate strong product knowledge to enhance the guest experience and maximize café revenue.

  • Assist in merchandising displays to maintain an attractive and inviting café environment.


Teamwork and Communication


  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members to ensure efficient daily operations.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding guest concerns, inventory needs, equipment issues, and operational updates.

  • Support other Food & Beverage outlets or hotel departments as business needs require.

  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in ongoing training opportunities.


General Responsibilities


  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.

  • Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards.

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Position Requirements QUALIFICATIONS


  • Skills: Strong knowledge of coffee and tea preparation techniques. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Customer Focus: Exceptional customer service skills with a passion for creating memorable guest experiences.

  • Appearance: Professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the luxury standards of our hotel.

  • Flexibility: Ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required by the hotel's needs.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • High School Diploma preferred.

  • Previous cash handling or food service experience preferred.


LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


  • Effective ability to communicate orally and in written form effectively with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to read and speak English and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers and other employees

  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, guests and supervisors for optimum operation of the property


REASONING ABILITY

Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to prioritize work, solve routine operational issues, and provide exceptional guest service in a fast‑paced environment.
