Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas is seeking a friendly Food Service Associate for Nutrition Services to support beverage and food service in a busy cafe setting. You will follow recipes, operate the cash register, and uphold sanitary standards to ensure a safe, welcoming guest experience.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma and prior barista or cash-handling experience, with day-time, full-time hours and opportunities for growth within a renowned medical center.

Qualifications

• Experience in food service operations and customer-facing roles.
• Barista experience is preferred for beverage preparation.
• Cash handling experience is required for point-of-sale operations.

Responsibilities

• Completes and maintains performance standards as in employee handbook.
• Promotes sales by educating customers about drinks and menu items.
• Sets up and operates cash register; handles cash accurately.
• Prepares and sells coffee drinks following standard recipes and techniques.
• Maintains equipment and supplies; conducts preventive maintenance as needed.
• Adheres to cash handling guidelines and window-to-store records.

Job Duties

• Completes and maintains all job performance requirements and standard as established in the employee handbook and Position Time and Duties. Maintains all standards as required in the Disciplinary points section of the employee handbook.
• Maintains and promotes a positive work environment with both internal and external customers. Promotes sales by educating customers and explaining drink menu; answering questions.
• Sets up cash register. Receives and Verifies cash till, counts operating cash and places in register. Logs off of register every time the cashier steps away.
• Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as expresso, caffe latte, and cappuccino.
• Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance.
• Maintains required records, statistics, particularly those involved in cashiering such as register tapes. Adheres to Cash handling guidelines.
• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following sanitation and organization regulations.
• Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries, hot food items, and muffins. Follow HACCP guidelines.
• Attends in-service meetings and other required training and meetings as directed. Completes Taleo within allotted timeframe.
• Reports defective equipment/supplies, cashiering problems and unusual conditions to supervisor. Alerts Supervisor to Customer issues and Complaints, Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance.
• Press Ganey at 95% or higher.
• Assures safety/sanitation guidelines are met by keeping work area appropriately cleaned and promptly addressing issues which might compromise safety, such as wet floors, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
