Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Company LP in Kenova, West Virginia seeks a shore-based Tankerman to support barge transfers and product handling at the Kenova WV Terminal. You will report to the Kenova Terminal Shift Supervisor and operate in all weather on a 12-hour rotating shift, ensuring safe, efficient transfers of petroleum products.

The role requires a valid MMC with Tankerman PIC, a TWIC card, basic computer skills, and strong driving and record-keeping abilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid Merchant Marine Credential (MMC) with Tankerman PIC within 6 months of hire.
• Must qualify and maintain a valid TWIC card.
• Ability to learn basic computer skills.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and ability to document and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to learn mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Conducting barge transfers (loading and unloading) based on Marathon’s procedures and all applicable USCG regulations/guidelines.
• Troubleshooting barges, performing minor maintenance on barges and being proficient in all phases of barge transfers, including heater operation on hot oil barges.
• Gauging, sampling, hooking up, sampling and laboratory testing of petroleum products.
• Stair climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, and often working outdoors.
• Preparing terminal reports, maintaining records and documenting all transfer times to be turned into the office in a timely manner.
