The role requires an Associate degree and 4 years of leadership/admin experience; a Texas driver license is required. Euthanasia certification within one year is preferred. Occasional lifting and variable schedules apply.

Description Of Duties / Essential Functions

Supervises the operations and activities of the Medical Services, including the work of Senior Animal Care Technicians (Medical) in the humane care and sheltering of animals within the facility. Supervises section, schedules and reviews work, and trains and evaluates employees. Interviews job applicants, conducts internal audits and oversees corrective discipline processes; maintains personnel attendance records. Overseas, along with other shelter supervisors, the daily operations of the intake process, adoption process, wellness clinic, surgery suite, euthanasia and medical processes at BARC. Coordinates with other personnel to facilitate adoption/rescue of animals in a timely manner. Ensures accuracy of animal shelter management system/database. Participates in preparation and administration of budget. Ensures accuracy and manages daily shelter inventory. Writes and implements policies and procedures. Participate in making adjustments to meet the revenue needs. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. In some cases, the position may require extensive, near-continuous physical exertion such as repeated lifting of very heavy objects (more than 80 pounds), deep bending, climbing steps and/or assuming awkward positions.

Minimum Requirements

Education: An Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology, Animal Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Additional education beyond the Associate degree level may be substituted for up to two years of the experience requirement. Experience: Four years of experience in a leadership, customer service, or administrative role, or related experience is required. Additional experience in an animal care role may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis, with a limit of two years. License: A valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. Preferences shall be given to those with the following qualities:

Must be Euthanasia Certified or obtain an euthanasia certification within one of year of employment.
