Job description

The Barber is responsible for the overall performance of professional salon treatments. Must possess comprehensive knowledge and experience of barber services, techniques, excellent cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene skills and practices. Must be willing to train with spa specific treatment protocols, procedures, and equipment. Ensuring the highest luxury resort standards of professionalism, guest service. Team members must understand and execute AAA service standards. As the Barber, you will demonstrate and exemplify Jamul Casino Resort’s mission and values by embodying the acronym F.I.R.S.T. (Fun, Integrity, Respect, Service, Team).

Requirements / Qualifications / Skills
  • Must possess a current cosmetology/barbering license through the California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. -Required
  • Enhance technical knowledge through continued training, courses, and education.
  • Ensure confidentiality with respect to guest information.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a quality work environment.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment – phones, computers, etc.
  • Presents a professional, well-groomed appearance; provided uniforms must be worn in the Spa and must be laundered and pressed.
  • Works effectively with guests and team members, and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions.
  • Learns the names and personally recognizes guests and team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality hair and barbering services based on guests’ preferences. Including color, cutting, and re-texturing services.
  • Promote/upsell salon and spa treatments and services.
  • Evaluate the condition of guests’ hair and advise them on proper hair care and suitable solutions and hair care treatments.
  • Sanitization of all salon instruments and equipment before each use.
  • Ensuring that workstations and equipment are kept clean and orderly, and all supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Build a client base through referrals and utilization of available promotional materials.
  • General knowledge of features and benefits of professional and retail hair products.
  • Participates in sales incentive programs.
  • Perform Salon duties while always maintaining the guests’ comfort.
  • Ensure individualized guest service through acknowledging and responding to their needs and expectations.
  • Actively participate in other areas of the spa operation, Nail, Hair, etc., product knowledge and retail sales.
  • Arrive on time for scheduled shift, prompt with each appointment, and perform services within the appropriate time allotted for the service.
  • Properly opens and closes each shift according to standard operating procedures.
  • Stock salon products, linens and guest amenities.
  • Building and maintaining guest profiles to anticipate future needs and deliver superior service.
  • Disposal of garbage and used linens effectively, efficiently, in a timely manner and as instructed.
  • Proper care for equipment and uses appropriate amounts of product to assist with cost controls.
  • Upholds the standards of sanitation and sterilization as directed by law and the spa’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide accurate and detailed descriptions of spa treatments, packages, services, treatment contraindications, facility features and hours of operation; Possesses complete knowledge and understands all services and products offered to actively promote services and promotions.
  • Assists in all areas of the spa operation as needed or requested.
  • Ensure all salon retail is clean, stocked, and well maintained.
  • Communicates to management all occurrences involving guests and/or team members in the spa that require attention.
  • Attending all scheduled Spa, Resort, and departmental meetings.
  • Ensure confidentiality with respect to guest information.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a quality work environment.
  • Act in accordance with established guidelines; follow standard procedures; recognize and comply with written rules or practices.
  • Adapt and interact with people who have different values, cultures, or backgrounds, be of service to potentially difficult people, recognize the benefits of having a diverse workforce.
  • Adhere to AAA standards and policies.
  • Adheres to all grooming standards as outlined by leadership.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Team members must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability to earn and maintain Gaming License.

Must be able to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.

Team members could be exposed to an environment containing unrestricted second-hand tobacco smoke.

Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required. Additionally, Spanish and/or Tagalog language skills highly preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
