Job summary

FoundationCCC in California is seeking Inspection Assistants for the BAR Smog Check Referee Program. This is a 100% in-person, one-year temporary role designed for newly licensed automotive professionals to gain hands-on inspection experience and learn California’s Smog Check procedures alongside experienced staff.

You will perform emissions testing, apply BAR regulations, and communicate results to motorists while supporting daily operations.

Qualifications

• Active BAR EO Inspector License (Required)
• Relevant AA/AS degree, equivalent work experience, or a combination of both
• At least one year of related work experience
• Foundational knowledge of automotive technology, emissions testing, and BAR Smog Check procedures
• Prior smog inspection experience preferred, but not required
• Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail, initiative, and willingness to learn
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software applications

Responsibilities

• Perform Vehicle Inspections: Conduct emissions testing, OBD compliance checks, and specialized vehicle inspections.
• Apply BAR Regulations: Develop your understanding of California's Smog Check procedures, policies, and compliance standards.
• Gain Technical Experience: Use inspection equipment and diagnostic systems to evaluate vehicle emissions compliance.
• Collaborate With Experienced Professionals: Work alongside Referee staff and management to support daily operations.
• Support California Motorists: Explain inspection results, answer technical questions, and provide professional customer service.
• Make an Impact: Help ensure vehicles meet emissions standards and contribute to cleaner air throughout California.
