Job Summary

Leads by example for staff by providing the highest level of Guest Service. The primary duty will be supervising the closing duties of events and ensuring the Banquet and Event spaces are immaculate. Under supervision, oversees and coordinates special events such as Corporate Beach Deck picnics and other food-related park and/or promotional exclusives. Creating prep sheets and shift assignments for events. Supports facilities, bartenders, production kitchen operations if needed. Assists in conducting Banquet and Events Department training, including new employee orientation training, department-specific training and on-the-job training. Organizes Event and Banquet storage areas and assists in updating training and operational procedures during the off-season.

This is a unique opportunity to join the Boardwalk's great Guest Service Team as the leader of a department. Must provide exceptional Guest Service by acknowledging and greeting all Guests and exemplify outstanding service to our Guests by owning the key Guest Service Principles: Smile, Welcome, Eye Contact, Lift the Experience and Leave Them Well.

Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays. Must be Guest oriented. Flexible schedule 7 days a week. Carries a radio. Must obtain either a CA Food Handler card or ServSafe certification within 30 days of hire, or show proof of existing CA Food Handler card and/or ServSafe certification.

Job Tasks

Greet every Guest and answer Guests’ questions and provide consistent, friendly and helpful Guest service.

Plan, coordinate and supervise Banquets, Events, and Team Member events.

Maintain safety and sanitation requirements.

Prepare event reports, and evaluations.

Make recommendations to improve menus, quality, and service.

Train and motivate team to provide consistent, friendly and helpful service to Team Members and Guests.

Record inventory accurately and maintains inventory to maintain stock levels.

Ensure good working conditions and working relationships.

Supervise, train, coordinate, review and plan the work of Banquet and Event staff.

Work as a team leader and maintain high professional conduct.

Set a schedule for the day's activities.

Conduct departmental training for new Team Members, selling alcoholic beverages, cash handling, safety and on-the-job training, as well as other training as needed.

Handle Guest complaints.

Handle beer/wine in conformance with the state law and Company policies.

Update and maintain the digital calendar of events for accuracy.

Assign and give 15 and 30 minute breaks.

Promote teamwork, coach, counsel and discipline Team Members.

Write and update department binders, checklists, guides, training materials and tests.

Enforce and uphold new policies and procedures.

Perform service and safety observations on Team Members.

Perform cashier audits and follow up with cashiers.

Assist other Banquet and Events Supervisors with training and track training of seasonal Team Members.

Assist in supervising the departmental Banquet and Events operations in the absence of the Operations Manager or as needed.

Prepare Team Member Performance Evaluations.

Assist in preparing weekly staff schedules for events.

Assist as Banquet and Events Supervisor during the off-season and assist during the summer as needed.

Enroll Team Members into the cash recycler and register systems.

Participate in Team Member activities as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Training and Experience

Must excel at providing outstanding Guest Service. At least one year of supervisory and training experience in a restaurant or related food service environment and some experience coordinating and managing events. A degree in hotel or restaurant management may be substituted for six months of experience.

  • Ability to comply with ServSafe Instructor Performance Agreement and register as a ServSafe Food Handler Instructor.
Physical Requirements

Ability to frequently stand, walk, and move throughout event facilities for extended periods.

Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move equipment, furniture, supplies, and inventory weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to bend, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs regularly throughout the workday.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.

Ability to operate a computer, radio, telephone, and other standard office and operational equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and by radio in a fast-paced, often noisy environment.

Ability to visually inspect facilities, equipment, inventory, and event areas to ensure safety and operational standards are met.

Ability to maintain mobility and stamina sufficient to supervise large-scale events and respond to operational needs throughout the workday.
